Facebook Messages Might See Promotions in the Future

Posted on

FacebookA change in the code for Facebook Messages appears to suggest that the site could unveil a type of promotion within a user’s inbox. “It’s unclear exactly what is in the works here, but it seems as though Facebook will allow users or marketers to pay to send or promote a direct message to users.” Facebook used to allow pages to send updates about promotions and events to users’ inboxes, but in September 2011, the social network removed the feature. Facebook will have to make policies and best practices clear to businesses to prevent them from turning off users and destroying a major advantage Facebook Messages has over email: relevance.
