Facebook Gifts is now selling iTunes digital gift certificates. When a Facebook user purchases an iTunes gift card, they will be able to set the amount put on the card ($10, $15, $25 or $50) and attach recommendations for what the recipient should spend their iTunes credit on. Recommendations can be categories, like “Top Albums,” or specific media found via a search box. The gift will appear wrapped on the recipient’s Timeline until they open it up. Facebook first introduced Gifts in September to a small set of U.S. users, but has rolled it out to more and more users since then. Facebook could use data on the devices and likes of a user to recommend who its users should buy iTunes gift cards for, as well as what they should recommend. The real potential of Facebook Gifts is “taking the guesswork and decision making out of shopping.” (TechCrunch, The Next Web)
