comScore logoOn Thursday, comScore announced the U.S. beta release of Media Metrix Multi-Platform, an audience measurement and media planning tool that offers “unduplicated accounting of audience size and demographics that reflects today’s multi-platform digital media environment, which includes websites, apps and video content accessed from multiple devices.” The company notes that the biggest change from its traditional Media Metrix rankings is the boosts in audience sizes for media properties with a measurable mobile presence. For example, with its multiplatform tool, comScore sees 10 properties with 100 million+ unique visitors, as opposed to six with its traditional Media Metrix tool. Google remained at No. 1 with a total digital population of 214.8 million visitors in the U.S. in September, followed by Yahoo with 189.3 million visitors. Facebook moved up one spot thanks to the new rankings with 179.4 million visitors, while Microsoft Sites was fourth with 170.6 million visitors, down two spots thanks to the multiplatform perspective. comScore notes that “Amazon, eBay and Walmart each reached at least 20 percent more visitors across platforms than via desktop alone.” Pandora and Twitter also experienced huge bumps up in their rankings.
