ExxonMobil is boosting its NASCAR profile with Penske Racing as title sponsor of the Penske Dodge car next season.
The No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge will be driven by three-time IndyCar Series champion Sam Hornish Jr. when he moves to the NASCAR Sprint circuit in 2008. The move by ExxonMobil marks an expansion of its 17-year relationship with Penske Racing.
Mobil 1 is the official lubricant of NASCAR, currently claiming usage by 60% of the racing teams on the NASCAR circuit.
“Our association with Penske Racing and NACAR reinforces the engine protection and performance that Mobil 1 delivers for both NASCAR drivers on the track and race fans traveling to the track,” said Jerry Kohlenberger, president of ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties Co., in a statement.
ExxonMobil has been pushing its NASCAR presence over the past several seasons on a grassroots level with a traveling Mobil 1 motorsports exhibit at race events.
