E-mail Security Firm Launches Free Performance Index

E-mail security concern MX ToolBox is expected Wednesday to launch the MX Watch E-mail Performance Index, which it claims is the first-ever index charting the overall health and performance of thousands of e-mail systems worldwide.

MX Watch aggregates e-mail performance data across a wide-ranging sample of small, medium and large corporations and institutions, graphically comparing the speed at which e-mail servers communicate with one another. Beginning Wednesday, the firm will post its ongoing monitoring results, free of charge, on its Web site at www.mxtoolbox.com.

The company claims the index shows how long it takes e-mail transactions to take place.

As a result, e-mailers who are experiencing slow-downs in their deliveries could check the index to see if others are having the same problem, said MX ToolBox founder Eric Rachal

“What we’ve decided to do is publish a real-time index of performance data across our customer base, which we believe is a pretty representative example of business e-mail use out in the real world,” said Rachal. “We just thought it would be a useful thing to put that out on the Internet so that anybody in the industry could go and see kind of a real-time pulse of what’s going on today in the e-mail world.”
