Drive a Wiener and Feed the Nation

Short of piloting the Goodyear blimp, there may be no more enviable job in U.S. transportation than riding in the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Now Oscar Mayer and parent Kraft Foods are offering five civilians the chance to “ride shotbun” for a day in the famous hot dog hot rod.

One of those chances went up for online bidding on eBay on May 25 and will remain at auction through June 4. Visitors can go online and place a bid on a seat in the Wienermobile for a day riding alongside actor Ty Burrell from the TV show “Modern Family”. ‘

Proceeds from the eBay auction will go through the Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission and be funneled to hunger-relief charity Feeding America. Burrell is serving as official Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission ambassador.

The winning eBay Wienermobile bid will also get a catered Oscar Mayer branded cookout for up to 50 guests, including a grill and grilling accessories, a cooler, and a year’s supply of Oscar Mayer hot dogs.

Four other winners can earn a day’s ride in the 27-foot-long Wienermobile by joining the company’s Good Mood Mission online. There they can click on the “Ride Shotbun” button on the site before July 31 and describe what they would do with the chance to ride along. The four most interesting and original stories will win bun rides as well as $5,000 awards.

In addition, for each application entered through the “Ride Shotbun” link, Oscar Mayer will donate a pound of food to the Feeding America cause, up to a limit of three million pounds.

“Thanks to America’s support of the Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission, we have reached our initial goal of donating two million pounds of food to Feeding America,” Oscar Mayer senior marketing director Sean marks said in a release. “Now we are raising the bar and our donation.”
