Dr Pepper Dangles $1 Million in Football Toss

Dec. 3 is going to be a big day for some Dr Pepper fans.

During the three championship college football games held that day, one fan will compete for up to $1 million in the Dr Pepper Football Championship Challenge. Dr Pepper has held the challenge for at least the last 10 years, a spokesperson said.

At halftime during each of the three games— Dr Pepper ACC, the Dr Pepper Big 12 and the SEC Championship Games— national television, the fan will try to throw a football into a two-foot hole cut into an oversized replica of a can of Dr Pepper. The fan gets 10 tries in 30 seconds from the five-year line. Each successful pass gets $10,000. At the end of the 30-seconds, the fan moves to the 20-year line and gets one chance to get the ball through the hole in the can and can then multiple their winnings by 10. The three finalists were selected from a competition held the day before, featuring semi-finalists from the Dr Pepper Football Championship Challenge program.

At each game, former college football stars such as Charlie Ward and Jason White will offer tips to the finalists.

Consumers got the chance to try for the $1 million by submitting codes found during a August through October instant-win under-the-cap promotion and inside specially marked 12-packs of Dr Pepper, Diet Dr Pepper, Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper and Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper. The codes could be entered at DrPepper.com. Other prizes included T-shirts, 75 grand-prize trips for two to one of the games to participate in the “Pass Competition” and 120 second-prize trips to certain college games.

Dr Pepper, a Cadbury Schweppes brand, is the title sponsor of the ACC Championship, to be held in Jacksonville, FL and in its 10th year as title sponsor of the Big 12 Championship, to be played in Houston, TX. It is also the official soft drink of the SEC Championship game, to be held in Atlanta.
