DOWNS AWARD: Jackson Wins It

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Rob Jackson has been named the Charles S. Downs Chicago Direct Marketer of the Year by the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing. He was scheduled to receive the award at the CADM conference Feb. 25.

Jackson, principal and head of the Chicago office of DiaLogos Inc., a Boston-based CRM and Internet consulting firm, is described by CADM as a direct marketing Renaissance man.

At his second job, for example, as manager of advertising and public relations for ITT Educational Services in Indianapolis, he pioneered the concept of the 30-second/10-second piggyback direct response spot.

Midway in his career – as director of marketing and product management at May & Speh Inc., Downers Grove, IL, Jackson developed the first formula to quantify the development of data enhancement activity for data overlay or database residence.

Jackson is the author of “Strategic Direct Marketing,” a textbook and general information resource published in 1994. The volume describes the process for developing and valuing the internal and external data used in customer marketing. It’s relied upon as the definitive text in the United States, as well as in South American nations and Japan. He has been a member of CADM since 1984 and was its president in 1994 and 1995.

The Downs Award is named in honor of Charles S. Downs, the late advertising director of Abbott Laboratories, who was a CADM founder and the group’s first president.
