DM Services Growth Leads Harte-Hanks First Quarter

Harte-Hanks Inc,. San Antonio, TX, had first-quarter 1999 revenue of $188.1 million, a 5.9% increase from first-quarter 1998 revenue of $177.7 million. Net income grew even faster, from $14.1 million to $15.3 million, an 8.7% growth rate.

The direct marketing sector of the company’s business showed revenue growth of 9.2%, from $114.4 million to $124.9 million, while the company’s shoppers division had a revenue slowdown, dropping from $63.2 million to $63.1 million. Operating income for both sectors, however, showed substantial growth. The direct marketing division grew 22.8%, from $14.1 million to $17.3 million, while income from shoppers rose by 20.2%, from $7.3 million to $8.8 million.

In other news at the company, Harte-Hanks Data Technologies, Billerica, MA, has introduced Allink Agent, an interactive relationship-management system that enables marketers to optimize customer and prospect communications across all touch points.

Allink Agent leverages customer profile information to determine the significance of individual customer interactions such as purchases, transactions, service inquiries or Web activity. Based on those customer interactions, Allink Agent responds via the customer’s preferred touch point with a customized sales offer or service message based on pre-determined business rules.
