Disney Names Alessandro To Marketing Helm

Jim Alessandro has joined the Disneyland resort as senior VP-marketing. Alessandro, who was formerly assigned as VP-global marketing support, replaces Marty Muller who has returned to her previous role as senior VP global marketing-creative for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Burbank, CA. His position became effective in September.

In his new role, Alessandro leads all aspects of marketing, including advertising, press, publicity, marketing strategy, special events and alliance marketing. As part of his job, Alessandro will help enhance initiatives to showcase Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration. The 18-month event kicked off May 5 and continues through September 2006.

When announcing the appointment, Matt Ouimet, president of Disneyland Resort said, Alessandro “will be a valuable addition to our leadership team as we continue to build on the marketing momentum created by Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration”, in a statement.

A 12-year veteran of The Walt Disney Co., Alessandro served as VP-marketing for the Disney Cruise Line and director, brand management at the Walt Disney resort. Under the role, Alessandro provided brand management support for each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks and water parks, Downtown Disney and Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

Before joining the Disney family, Alessandro worked for ad agencies Saatchi and Saatchi, Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago-based Foote Cone and Belding.
