Direct Sales Off for Tiffany

Tiffany & Co. reported second quarter net income of $36.6 million on sales of $476.6 million. While the sales figure represents a jump from second-quarter 2003 sales of $442.5 million, net earnings fell from the $41.1 million recorded a year ago. The quarter ended July 31.

While U.S. retail sales rose 11%, to $236.8 million between the quarters, and international sales were up 7%, to $180.9 million, direct marketing sales fell 8%, to $40.3 million.
