Direct Sales Not Enough to Offset Income Loss For Chico’s FAS

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Third quarter net sales for Chico’s FAS rose from $402.2 million to $415.9 million, while the apparel firm’s net income fell from $42.1 million to $23.6 million during the same period. The quarter ended Nov. 3.

While same-store sales fell by 9.3% between the quarters, sales from catalogs and the Internet rose 43.9%, from $12.5 million to $18 million. Management attributed this growth to improvements in its Web site and call center infrastructure, as well as a new approach to merchandising on the Web site.
