Dell Names First New CMO

Dell Inc. has named Mark Jarvis as the company’s first chief marketing officer. The position took effect on Monday.

In his new role, Jarvis is in charge of organizing a global marketing strategy and operation for the company, Dell spokesman Dwayne Cox said. He also oversees Dell’s online organization, global branding and corporate communications departments.

Jarvis reports to Chief Executive Officer Michael Dell, who returned to the post in January.

Previously, Jarvis worked for 14 years at Oracle, a business software manufacturer, most recently as its chief marketing officer. He left in 2003.

Dell had been without a marketing chief since Michael George left in October 2005 to become chief executive of television shopping network QVC Inc. In that role, George oversaw Dell.com and the Dell brand in the consumer, corporate, public and small business markets.
