Delia’s Reports Fourth-Quarter Profit

Delia’s Corp. made a profit during the fourth quarter of 2001 despite a 19% drop in sales.

The firm, which markets apparel and other merchandise to young women, reported revenue of $49 million for the quarter, down from $60.7 million during the same period in 2001. Net income totaled $310,000, compared with a $17.8 million net loss the prior year.

Direct marketing sales were hurt by sporadic mail delays. However, the company attained profitability through “tight inventory management, combined with a commitment to maintaining gross margins in a highly promotional environment and ongoing expense control,” President Andrea Weiss said in a statement.
