DC Metro May Add Ads

Washington, DC Metro plans to sell ad space on subway trains and tunnels in an about-face on its long-time clean-station policy.

Metro will put ad wraps on 100 buses and 20 trains by spring and launch four or five subway tunnel ads by summer, reports The Washington Post. Transit officials also may sell ad space in parking garages, on bus shelters and along station banisters. Ads could bring in $15 million a year to offset Metro shortfalls, projected at $60 million next year, per The Post. The Metro gets about $23.2 million a year from ads from panel ads and posters in stations and on buses and trains, The Post reports.
