Dale and Thomas Runs Super Bowl Popcorn Play

Dale and Thomas Popcorn drafted two sports celebrity popcorn gourmands to create new flavors in a promotion to pump up its sales for the Super Bowl.

National Football League Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman and announcer Joe Buck actually collaborated with the gourmet popcorn maker’s own Chef Ed to create two limited edition flavors being marketed for the big game: Halftime Chili and Sour Cream and Dark Fudge Drizzlecorn with Praline Almonds. Aikman and Buck are part of NBC’s Super Bowl announcing team.

Popcorn aficionados can order eight bags of the new flavors in a package with a glass bowl bearing Aikman’s and Buck’s signatures for $42 online at http://www.daleandthomas.com. Ten of the 2008 Limited Edition Troy Aikman and Joe Buck Big Game Collectible Party Boxes will contain a letter signed by the duo, enabling the purchaser to receive a football autographed by both sports legends.

“This is the most exciting time in football and a great way to enjoy the game,” said Dale and Thomas spokeswoman Rosie Mattio.

Aikman and Buck immediately agreed to the culinary collaboration when they were approached about the promotion, according to Mattio.

“It turns out they’re both big popcorn fans,” she said.

The same goes for Super Bowl fans, who annually consume 4.2 million pounds of the popped corn snack during the contest, according to Dale and Thomas.

The company is plugging the promotion on its Web site, through blogs and traditional media channels, and reports a brisk pace of orders for its Big Game package already. It’s also available for purchase at 12 Dale and Thomas retail outlets nationwide.
