CSIA Asks Feds to Beef Up Data Protection

The Cyber Security Industry Alliance has called on the Administration and Congress to implement 13 proposals it believes will help improve the privacy, reliability and integrity of Information. They are:

*Passing a national data breach notification bill.

*Passing a national spyware protection bill.

*Ensuring that cyber security protection be applied to the healthcare infrastructure.

*Promoting information security governance in the private sector.

*Directing a federal agency to track costs associated with cyber attacks.

*Securing digital control systems.

*Strengthening National Information Assurance Partnership certification.

*Filling new cyber security post in Department of Homeland Security.

*Ratifying the Council of Europe’s Convention on Cybercrime.

*Increasing research and development funding for cyber security.

*Completing Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) initiative for government-wide operations.

*Ensuring continuity of government operations with telework.

*Including information security planning in transition to Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6.
