Court TV Makes Psychic Connection with Viewers Via Stunt, Sweeps

Court TV is giving consumers a sneak peak into their future via a psychic reading stunt this week to help drive tune-in for the third season of Psychic Detectives.

Consumers can get a free psychic reading from 50 psychics as part of the network’s “psychic circle” from noon to three on Wednesday at Time Warner Center. Javelin, St. Louis, handles. The psychic following a similar promotion Court TV ran last year to promote the second season of the show, said Kathi Palminteri, senior director, consumer promotions for Court TV. This time the stunt is even larger, she said.

In addition, 20 street team members will target high-traffic locations in New York City seeding 30,000 tune-in cards and 30,000 branded Psychic Detectives candles to consumers. Interference, New York, handles.

The promotion is designed to reinforce Court TV’s branding message that the network is “more than just trials,” Palminteri said.

“It’s all about making a big splash,” she said. “We’re getting out in consumers’ faces in that grassroots way. Shaking everyone’s hands and letting them know what CT is all about helps.”

Psychic Detectives depicts stories of real cases in which psychics help detectives solve some of law enforcement’s most baffling cases. New episodes air at 10 p.m. Oct. 5 on Court TV.

To further leverage the show, Court TV is adding radio promotions in 20 top markets. Callers will receive 20 daily-qualifier prize packs, including Court TV-branded tarot cards, Psychic Detectives T-shirts and a Court TV nylon bag. One grand-prize winner gets an iPod Shuffle. The Regan Group, Los Angeles, CA, handles.

Court TV is adding an online component to the mix, offering a sweepstakes with a chance to win a spa trip for two to Santa Fe, NM, including spending money and dinner. Viewers can log onto to Courttv.com/contest to enter. Consumers can also play an online memory game matching tarot card.

One first-prize winner gets a MiniDV Digital Camcorder and one second-prize winner gets a 5.0 megapixel digital camera. The sweepstakes is open to consumers 21 and older and runs through Oct. 21.
