Consumers Not Fleeing to Online Bill-Paying Sites, Says Report

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Consumers may be concerned about anthrax in their mail but it hasn’t stopped them from opening their bills.

Jupiter Media Metrix reported that there is no noticeable increase in traffic to online billing Web sites as a result of then anthrax threats or the events of Sept. 11.

Media Metrix traffic data reveal that unique visitors to online billing sites–including American Express and Discover Financial Services–increased by an average of only 2.8% during the last three weeks of October.

The increase in visitors over the last three months was 2.5%, which is not statistically significant and should be expected as more consumers embrace online financial services applications, said Jupiter.
