In spite of the dot-com burnout, consumers are still hot for online shopping.
According to comparison shopping site BizRate.com, online sales will increase by 34% in the fourth quarter, with $12.4 billion in sales. And, the site further predicts, women will drive online sales.
Since holiday 2000, women have become the majority buyer at key gift-giving occasions, and “they are expected to continue to power online growth during this year’s holiday season,” said a BizRate.com statement.
The number of women online has increased from 39% during the holiday season 1998, to 55% during the holiday season 2000.
Female-dominated categories online are gifts and flowers with women composing 65% of the customers; health and beauty, with 65%; and food and drink, with 62%.
At home and garden sites, 61% of the customers are women, and at apparel sties, it’s 59%. Some 55% of the customers at toys and games e-tailers are women, and at office suppliers, 51% are female.
