Coke Buys Glacéau for $4.1 Billion

The Coca-Cola Co. said Friday that is has acquired Energy Brands, known as Glacéau, and its enhanced water brands for $4.1 billion in cash.

The deal, which includes vitaminwater, smartwater, fruitwater and vitaminenergy, allows Coke to expand and grow its active lifestyle brands.

“Glacéau has built a great business with high-quality growth, as well as a strong pipeline of innovative products and brands,” said Neville Isdell, chairman and chief executive officer, in a statement. “We envision even faster growth for Glacéau as part of Coca-Cola’s enhanced range of brands for North American customers and consumers.”

Glacéau will operate as a separate business unit within Coca-Cola North America. Key executives—J. Darius Bikoff, Mike Repole and Mike Venuti—plan to lead the business for a minimum of three years, Coca-Cola said.

The deal, Coca-Cola’s largest acquisition ever, is expected to close this summer.
