There are now more than 1 billion users in the worldwide Internet audience, according to comScore’s latest World Metrix report.
As of December 2008, the Asia Pacific region accounted for 41.3 percent of this enormous pie with 416.3 million unique visitors.
Europe accounted for 28.0 percent of the world’s Internet population, while North America accounted for 18.4 percent.
Latin America accounted for 7.4 percent, and the Middle East & Africa accounted for the remaining 4.8 percent.
China’s unique Internet audience was 179.7 million in December, or 17.8 percent of the entire world’s online population.
The U.S. had 163.3 million Internet users in December, or 16.2 percent of the worldwide online population.
Japan was third with 60.0 million users, followed by Germany with 37.0 million users and the U.K. with 36.7 million users.
France (34.0 million), India (32.1 million), Russia (29.0 million), Brazil (27.7 million) and South Korea (27.3 million) rounded out the top 10 list.
Google, unsurprisingly, was the top online property in terms of total worldwide unique visitors, reaching 77.0 percent of the worldwide audience, or 776.0 million users.
Microsoft was second, drawing in 64.2 percent of the worldwide audience, followed by Yahoo! with 55.8 percent and AOL LLC and Wikimedia Foundation sites, each with 27.1 percent.
