Except to check out Pete Hamill’s column once a month or so, I don’t usually read the New York Daily News. But I bought a copy on April 28 because of the front-page photo: An unshaven Norman Chanes looking grim after being booked on fraud-related charges in federal court.
That brought on a wave of nostalgia, a feeling that also was evident at the courthouse when Norman was brought in. As I hear it, he greeted a postal inspector who had nabbed him 20 years ago like an old friend.
