Burger King Corp. is rolling out a new burger to feed king-sized appetites, the Triple Whopper with cheese sandwich, to help generate buzz over Universal Picture’s new film King Kong.
The new burger includes three beef patties, American cheese lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mayonnaise, pickles and onions stacked on a sesame bun and retails for $3.99. Burger King has added the Triple Whopper as a permanent item to its menu. Burger King is also touting its Double Whopper sandwich for smaller appetites, which sells for $2.99.
In honor of King Kong, the QSR is selling banana milk shakes (16 ounces to 42 ounces) through Dec. 31. The shakes sell for $1.29 to $1.79.
King Kong opened yesterday in theaters nationwide. The film follows the original 1933 version of the original classic, in which a film director and leading lady search out the largest gorilla in the world and underestimate its size and strength.
“A King Kong promotion was a natural fit for the Burger King brand,” said Brian Gies, VP-marketing, Burger King Corp., in a statement. “Now we have a Whopper sandwich that’s sure to satisfy even Kong-sized cravings.”

To extend the King Kong experience beyond the restaurant, consumers can log on to BK.com to download screensavers, buddy icons and desktop images of characters from the film.
Burger King revamped its Web site to help promote the film. When visitors log on to the site, an image of the Triple Whopper appears, followed by a shaking screen to announce the arrival of King Kong and Burger King’s new product line-up.
