Advertising spending for Blair Corporation grew 13% in the first quarter, thanks to increases in mailings to customers and prospects.
The Warren, PA-based direct marketer of apparel and home products posted net sales for the quarter ended March 31 of $137.01 million, versus $135.2 million for last year’s quarter.
Net income for the quarter was $500,189, compared to $5.6 million for the quarter last year. The company attributed the drop to not only the increased ad spending but also the increased cost of goods sold.
Blair reported $16 million in gross e-commerce sales for the quarter, up from $13 million for the same period in 2002.
