The NFL's Cincinnati Bengals have unveiled a new main logo, replacing the tiger logo it adopted in 1997. The initial "B," custom designed for the team by NFL Properties, features the team's signature tiger stripes.
The logo will be on the new uniform—debuting April 22, two days before the NFL draft—and will be a featured element in team promotions and on merchandise. The Bengals also will continue to use the team's leaping tiger and tiger head logos, but the logos that included text will be removed from the team's inventory.
"People associate the stripes with our team, and we wanted to incorporate that in a new logo," said Katie Blackburn, Bengals executive VP, in a statement. "It adds to our inventory of logos with a clean, simple design that has a strong Bengals identity."
The team said that no changes would be made to the tiger-striped helmet, which was first introduced in 1981.
