Abercrombie & Fitch Sales, Income Up in First Quarter

Abercrombie & Fitch reported net sales of $312.8 million, up 19% from the $263.7 million it generated during first quarter 2001. The company’s net income rose from $20.6 million to $23.3 million during the same period.

The quarter ended May 4.

“Once again, the entire organization responded to the challenge of protecting the bottom line through disciplined management of inventory and expenses,” Mike Jeffries, chairman and CEO said in a statement.

In addition to its 507 stores, the New Albany, OH-based marketer operates two Web sites and publishes the A&F Quarterly.
