Yahoo! Publisher Network Gains Momentum

Posted on

“Based on demand from online publishers, we are opening our Publisher Network to the broader publisher community. Through the expanded platform, we plan to offer unique products and services to publishers of all sizes.”

That’s what you will see on Yahoo!’s new contextual advertising site, Yahoo! Publisher Network (see below for link). This is clearly Yahoo!’s response to Google’s highly successful AdSense. Yahoo! Publisher Network has been in beta testing since August and currently has approximately 2,000 Web publishers running their text advertisements on blogs, news sites, and other sites. When Yahoo! began the beta testing in August, their goal was to acquire 2,000 publishers and then expand the service before the end of 2006.

Reports indicate that Yahoo! has already reached their goal of 2,000 publishers and has just issued another 1,000 beta invitations to publishers. Yahoo! reportedly plans to expand the program even further by sending out more invitations after 2006 begins.

This makes Yahoo! a rival to Google, as the former’s Publisher Network challenges the latter’s AdSense in the contextual advertising realm.
