WPG Founder Stephen Conley Dies at 58

The founder of Westport Promotion Group, Stephen Y. Conley, died March 29 at a hospital near his home in Bradenton, FL, PROMO Xtra has learned. He was 58.

The cause was complications associated with rheumatoid arthritis, his wife Gwen said.

Conley founded promotion consulting firm Westport Promotion Group in Westport, CT, in 1984, where he worked until his illness forced him to close the agency in 1994. In 1995, he and his wife moved to Bradenton.

Prior to that he had worked for 15 years for General Foods in White Plains, NY, as a sales representative and account and area manager, ending his career there in consumer package goods promotion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Frederick S. Conley; a daughter, Kenna Conley Allen of Brookline, MA; a son, Brent Stephen Conley of Roslindale, MA; two brothers, David Conley of East Greenwich, RI, and Jay Conley of Spencerport, NY; a granddaughter; one niece and five nephews.

A memorial service will be held June 1 at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 95 Greenwood, Ave., Bethel, CT.
