Direct Marketing Association president Bob Wientzen said he was misquoted in an USA Today article Wednesday about Internet shopping and a surge in e-mail marketing.
Wientzen was quoted as saying that The DMA suggested that its members use “e-mail instead of regular mail” for promotions, according to the DMA.
But Wientzen said he told the reporter that members who have campaigns presently in the mail might want to consider using e-mail in addition to regular mail. As an example, he suggested that mailers might want to employ e-mail to put people on notice that mail had been sent, the DMA said.
The DMA remains committed to the promotion of the U.S. mail system as a valuable and integral direct marketing channel. Furthermore, we continue to support the statement that President George Bush made with respect to getting back to “business as usual,” the DMA said.
