Waitt Retires From Gateway, Snyder Named Chairman

Gateway Inc. founder and chairman Ted Waitt stepped down from the company’s board following Gateway’s annual meeting yesterday.

The board has elected former president Richard D. Snyder as chairman. Snyder, CEO of Ann Arbor, MI-based tech firm Ardesta LLC, has been a director of Irvine, CA-based Gateway since 1991 when he joined the company as executive vice president. He was promoted to president and COO in Jan. 1996, a position he held until leaving the company as an employee in Aug. 1997.

Janet M. Clarke was elected as an independent director to fill the open board seat. She is president and founder of marketing technology consultancy Clarke Littlefield LLC.

In a statement, Waitt said he was retiring to focus on a number of “business and philanthropic interests.”
