Volvo Trucks North America is giving U.S. truckers a chance to get in touch with their inner pirate through a new Volvo sweepstakes, which dangles a trip to the Bahamas and a cash prize.
The Discover the Treasure sweepstakes is open to holders of commercial drivers licenses. Drivers can register at Volvotruckpromotions.com through April 16. One grand-prize winner gets a four-night, trip for two to the Bahamas and $10,000 in cash or gold bullions.
In addition to the grand prize, 42 first-prize winners will receive a 13-inch color TV with built in DVD player. Volvo is also offering daily prizes of Volvo or movie-related merchandise, including Volvo driver’s jackets, Pirates of the Caribbean prize chests with movie passes, DVDs and watches.
The sweepstakes, which helps promote Volvo Truck’s VT 880 long-haul truck, is tied to Walt Disney Picture’s upcoming movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in theaters July 7.
“One of the things we’re trying to bring is a double entendre, to discover the treasure within our Volvo trucks and the products and services we have to offer,” said Tony Picarello, director of marketing and brand management at Greensboro, NC-based Volvo.
The Dave Nemo Radio Show and The Midnight Trucking Radio Network—radio programming targeting truck drivers—will help promote, as well as announcements at the Mid-America Trucking Show, which will take place in Kentucky this month.
“We think it [radio and truck show promotions] will help increase brand awareness and drive traffic to the promotion especially on the radio where DJs will be announcing winners every day,” Picarello said.
Volvo hopes truck fleet owners and operators, and truck drivers who are influential in truck the decision-making purchases, will be wooed by the sweeps, he added.
The promotion also builds on the Volvo Ocean Race. The race is a six-month event on the world’s oceans and involves high-tech racing yachts competing against each other. Disney is sponsoring one of the sailboats named “The Black Pearl” in this year’s race.
Jennings, Chapel Hill, NC, handles the sweeps.
