Visa Inks $200 Million Sponsorship Deal with FIFA

Visa will sign an estimated $150 million to $200 million sponsorship deal today to become the “Official Credit Card” of FIFA events from 2007 to 2014, according to news reports.

The financial services company will join Hyundai, Sony, Adidas and Coca-Cola, which are also sponsors for that seven-year timeframe.

Visa already sponsors the 2007 Rugby World Cup and has been an ongoing sponsor of the Olympic Games.

The deal would give the company rights to FIFA competitions, including advertising rights to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and at the 2014 World Cup, which may be held in Brazil.

Visa’s competitor, MasterCard, is a sponsor of this year’s World Cup, to be held in Germany.
