The U.S. Postal Service is seeking vendors to create customized postage stamps for people that want to use them.
Last year, the USPS began a test allowing customers to personalize stamps with their own pictures or images using PC Postage technology.
Customized postage will have two parts: a customer-supplied image and a secure bar code. All customized postage is compatible with the Postal Service’s automated mail processing systems.
Customized postage will be limited to personal use only during this test that’s slated to run through May 2006. The USPS said it’s trying to determine the appeal of this product and what value it may bring the USPS.
