The U.S Postal Service said its efforts to exterminate anthrax spores from its Curseen and Morris (formerly Brentwood) processing and distribution center in Washington have been completed and that renovation work will begin soon.
USPS vice president of engineering Tom Day made this announcement at the USPS Board of Governors meeting Tuesday.
The facility was closed in October 2001 after anthrax-laden letters were sent to members of Congress and two workers from the plant. Joseph Curseen and Thomas Morris Jr. became infected with anthrax and subsequently died (DIRECT Newsline, Oct. 23, 2001).
