United Parcel Service has released survey findings that indicate middle class Chinese consumers have a strong appetite for American videos, DVDs, books and electronics, followed by skin creams, athletic shoes and blue jeans, among other products.
The survey conducted in six Chinese cities found demand for American products is strongest among young consumers seeking to enhance their image and status. The color blue is preferred for packaging, followed by white, according to the survey. More than half of urban Chinese consumers use credit cards for shopping.
The survey found that young consumers prefer celebrity product endorsements, while older consumers feel more comfortable with professional endorsements in advertising.
UPS views China as growth market for U.S. export of consumer products. This year UPS expanded its express delivery service to 22 locations in China in six cities. Altogether UPS provides shipping services to 330 Chinese cities, which account for 85% of China’s international trade.
“Our hope is that survey findings will help U.S. businesses consider what opportunities may exist for their products in China,” said David Abney, president of UPS International in a statement.
