TRUSTe, a nonprofit Internet privacy initiative, has launched the European Union Safe Harbor Privacy Program. It’s an effort to globalize privacy protection and provide alternative dispute resolution for firms that do business in Europe. By joining the program and fully complying with the license agreement, companies will fulfill many of the requirements needed to self-certify to the Department of Commerce that they are compliant with its safe harbor privacy law. They can then continue to receive personal data from the EU without interruptions, TRUSTe said. The firm also unveiled a privacy seal for companies that receive Safe Harbor certification.
