True North Merges Bozell With FCB

True North Communications, Chicago, has merged several subsidiaries, including FCB Worldwide, to catapult itself into fifth place globally in agency billings. The new FCB Worldwide will have combined estimated billings of $8 billion. The merged agencies also include all of Bozell Worldwide’s international properties and two of its domestic businesses. The “super agency ” will have a global profile, since 40% of its billings will be from international markets and 60% from sources in the United States. Brendan Ryan, former chairman/CEO of FCB Worldwide, will serve as CEO of the new unit. Leo-Arthur Kelmenson, former chairman/CEO of Bozell Worldwide, has been named chairman of the revamped FCB. Gene Bartley, president of Bozell’s North American operations, was promoted to chairman of Bozell.
