Third Quarter Rough for Sharper Image

Sharper Image Corp.’s third quarter sales amounted to $123.1 million, down from $153. million, while its net loss widened from $3.7 million a year ago to $10.5 million. The quarter ended Oct. 31.

The San Francisco-based marketer felt the loss across all channels. Catalog sales were $31.5 million, down from $48.8 million a year earlier, and Internet sales fell to $17.5 million, down from $21 million. Total store sales were down to $71 million from $80.1 million., despite having opened 16 new stores during the year.

“In 2005, which we view as a transition year, the company remains focused on strengthening our distinctive product selection as well as controlling and decreasing levels of expenses in all parts of our business,” said chairman and CEO Richard Thalheimier.
