TBS is flagging its inaugural year of Major League Baseball playoff coverage with hotel door hangers and giant-sized bobbleheads.
Looking to pump up the playoff fever in locales where it was already hot, TBS struck a deal to hit guests in 10 Holiday Inns in Boston and Cleveland. It devised door hangers carrying the message “Shhhh! I’m watching MLB Postseason on TBS” for placement in 3,600 hotel rooms in the two cities.
“We wanted to go into markets that had a lot of post-season interest and buzz,” said Jenny Storms, TBS senior vice president of marketing and programming.
The flip side of the door hanger let’s the maid know the game’s over. But the real point is to build awareness about TBS carrying the four opening divisional playoff series of the American and National League. And it hopes guests will take the door hangers home and remember where to tune in.
TBS is also carrying the National League Championship Series.
TBS also has had10-foot tall bobbleheads on display in New York, Cleveland, OH, Seattle and St. Louis, MO, to hype the TBS playoff coverage in those markets. TBS struck deals with cable operators in each market, and the bobbleheads—dressed in the colors of each city’s home team—also plug the cable companies.
Passers-by can get their picture taken with Post-season Pete the Bobblehead and go to the TBS Web site at TBSBobblehead.com for a free download of the shot. The site carries tune-in information and an itinerary of locations where Post-season Pete will be appearing.
The network is also giving out bobblehead dolls made in the image of Pete in sports bars in each market.
TBS also has a traditional campaign of radio, print and outdoor ads to keep its MLB playoff games top of mind among baseball fans.
