Target is tapping into the excitement of New York’s Fashion Week by opening up pop-up stores to sell designer merchandise.
Four temporary stores, called “bodegas” open today, the end of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and will remain open through Sept. 15 in vacant storefronts in Midtown, Union Square, SoHo and the East Village. Each store will offer products from 22 designers, including fashion, home, accessories and beauty products.
Each shop will give visitors the chance to buy limited-time collections before they hit Target stores. The stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the four-day run and products will average $25 per item, the company said.
“Consumers today are focused on finding bargains and we want to remind budget-conscious shoppers that they can find great deals, and the quality they crave, all under one roof at Target,” Kathee Tesija, executive vice president of Target, said in a statement.
Target isn’t the only retailer trying to boost sales with temporary stores in a lagging economy. Sears Canada is targeting the college crowd with pop-up stores at Brock, Western and McMaster universities. A fourth shop at Queen’s University will open Sept. 26-27.
