The Talbots Inc., known for its upscale women’s and children’s apparel, is moving into men’s clothing.
Its holiday catalog, which will mail in October, will feature a 20-page insert highlighting dressy sportswear, including jackets, trousers, shirts, sweaters and other items appropriate for casual offices and weekends. Initially, it will not offer suits.
The insert probably will target existing customers first. But Talbots, which mailed 57 million catalogs in 2001, has not yet determined the mailing quantity.
The Talbots data card lists almost 500,000 last-12-month buyers, 90% of whom are women.
