The Talbots Inc. posted net income of $5.2 million for the first quarter, a sharp drop from net income of $27.4 million in the prior year.
The direct marketer and retailer reported sales of $573.6 million for the quarter ended May 5, an increase over sales of $453 million last year.
The Hingham, MA firm posted a 55% increase in direct marketing sales for the quarter, which it attributed to additional sales from J. Jill, which were not in last year’s results.
