The Talbots, Inc., Hingham, MA, had second quarter sales of $356.6 million, up 17% from the $305 million it recorded in second quarter 1999. The company has not yet released its income figures for the second quarter, which ended July 29.
Catalog sales rose 10%, from $40.9 million to $45.1 million, while retail sales for the women’s apparel firm jumped 18%, from $264.1 million to $311.5 million. Part of this increase was attributable to new outlets opening –comparable store sales rose 14.6%.
