Perhaps the coolest way to get a fragrance literally on the skin of millions of consumers, the scented tattoo from New York City-based Arcade Marketing is both hip and functional. Here’s how it works: A scent – whether it be from perfume, cologne, shampoo, or soap – is “micro-encapsulated” (that’s a five-dollar word) and applied to the exterior layer of a temporary tattoo. Applying the tattoo and rubbing it breaks the micro-capsules and releases the “aromatic essence.” Scents last 72 hours after application. Prices run the gamut and depend on volume, type of tattoo, and application (stand-alone order, magazine sample, etc.). Minimum order is 100,000.
