The Sportsman’s Guide Inc., South St. Paul, MN, reported that sales were up 14% for the year ended Dec. 31, 1999, compared with the year ended Dec. 31, 1998. Sales were $162.5 million for the year, compared with $142.9 million reported in 1998. This is an all-time record for the cataloger.
Net income for the year totaled $12,000, compared with $1.4 million a year ago.
The sales boost is due to an increase in catalog mailings, average order size and in Internet-related sales. These increases were offset by lower catalog response rates. The company plans to mail 20 million fewer catalogs this year than last.
