Spiegel Cuts 635 Jobs as Part of Restructuring Effort

The Spiegel Group closed a customer sales and service center, restructured its Eddie Bauer executive unit and trimmed its corporate information services unit.

A total of 635 positions were either eliminated or scheduled to be cut as the company undergoes reorganizing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Spiegel will close a Bothell, WA-based call center on July 6, eliminating 365 jobs. The company’s Eddie Bauer division will cut 180 positions from its Redmond, WA headquarters by May 9.

Separately, the company received U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval for $400 million financing. that will be used to supplement the company’s cash flow, with $50 million set aside to fund receivables generated from the company’s branded credit card division.
