SkyMall Inc., Phoenix, Friday named its initial partners for skymalltravel.com, a new travel Web site targeted to frequent flyers that will provide one-stop access for travel needs.
Skymalltravel.com is scheduled for launch in July and will offer travelers direct access to a broad selection of major airlines and other booking services.
The site is part of SkyMall’s previously announced $27 million investment in e-commerce, including the skymall.com shopping Web site (see DIRECT, May 15, 1999).
Through Frequent Flyer Services Inc., skymalltravel.com will offer a personalized Web-based consolidated statement of all frequent flyer programs. In addition, skymalltravel.com will include frequent flyer news and information from webflyer.com.
MapQuest will provide customized maps and door-to-door driving directions. Snapshot by ontheroad.com gives travelers a select list of top business events and restaurants, along with other recommendations. Myfamily.com provides family Web sites that host pictures, threaded messages and live chat sessions.
Trip.com will offer “IntelliTrip,” an engine for searching and price comparing fares directly from the airlines’ own Web-based reservation system, and “Flight Tracker,” which provides real-time flight information allowing travelers to see if their flights are departing or arriving on time.
