Online shopping site Kozmo.com, New York, plans to open a fifth consumer delivery facility next month in Washington, D.C. The one-hour delivery employs over 400 messengers nationwide and has delivery services in Boston, Seattle, San Francisco and New York. In addition, the company reported that it has raised $28 million in venture capital funding to be used for general business costs.
Thompson Lloyd & Wart Ltd., a London-based tea brokerage, plans to hold online tea auctions. Called the Automated Tea Marketing Online System, the site (http://www.atmostea.com), is intended to replace traditional London face-to-face tea auctions. Those auctions, a fixture of the tea industry since 1679, were scrapped last year because of competition from auctions in tea-growing countries. Only established tea companies will be able to obtain a password for the site and trade their tea online.
