Shoe and apparel retailer J. Baker Inc., based in Canton, MA, has received the approval of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware to acquire substantially all of the assets of the Repp Ltd. Big & Tall and Repp Ltd. by Mail divisions of Edison Brothers Stores Inc., currently operating under the protection of Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
The all cash purchase price of $31.7 million includes the Repp Ltd. by Mail catalog and 175 Repp Ltd. Big & Tall stores.
Baker expects to operate approximately 130 stores after it sells Repp’s Canadian operation to retailer Grafton-Fraser Inc. and after closing approximately 30 stores as part of the bankruptcy process. The Repp Ltd. by Mail catalog will continue to operate as it historically has.
Completion of the transaction is expected within a few days.
